The baby boomer generation, those born between 1946 - 1964 make up about 27% of the population but control a much larger percentage of spendable wealth. One particular individual has spent numerous hours and even years investigating the buying habits of this generation of baby boomers. This individual is nothing less than world renowned economist Paul Zane Pilser. Basically his insight has revealed that this generation has a much keener sense of health and wellness than their parents did and most aren't shy about investing their money in maintaining their health.
The baby boomers shopping and spending habits are much different than their parents. Their parents spent a much higher percentage of their income on the basic necessities of life while the boomers typically have much more in the way of disposable income to spend on wellness products.
The smart sophisticated intelligent consumer when shopping will typically look for and select the best-quality product their budget will allow. That is because they have learned that a quality well-made product will almost always save them money, long-term as it not only will last longer, but also perform better. If one can afford it, it almost never pays to buy a poorer quality alternative. It is hard to get ahead when you are continuing to replace a product when it is worn out.
Of course, don't get confused with expensive accessories that add to the cost of an item. These accessories don't necessarily add any additional quality to an item. For example, you could buy a particular car with or without a navigation system. The quality of the car would be the same with or without the navigation system. However, if most people select this particular option, not getting it may make it less valuable when selling it.
One last habit of baby boomers I wanted to comment on was in the area of reusable items. For example a wellness or nutrition product. They may select a lesser product initially when trying out a product they will almost always gravitate toward the highest quality version of this product as they realize it is the most cost effective version.
In reality everyone would love to have the best quality they just in most cases don't believe they can afford it. What most people don't realize is there are plenty of high quality items that they could actually afford, saving them money long term. Plus this is what the wealthy do and if you ever have any aspirations of being wealthy learn to emulate the wealthy in the areas responsible for creating wealth.
This is just one of the reasons we have made a decision as a business to market products of the highest quality. We know that the smart consumer will recognize quality and will always come back to quality. In addition we don't want to have to apologize to our customers for providing them a product of suspect quality.
