American Idol, The 'X' Factor, Big Brother, You Think You've Got Talent, Biggest Loser, Survivor...the list goes on and on!
The number of reality TV programs that can take an ordinary Jill or Joe and make them an instant celebrity, a star, famous or infamous is increasing week by week.
Then there is Youtube, web TV and webcam broadcasts to the world. Not only is the number of outlets for fame growing but the access to media outlets is getting easier with new technology.
So what will you use if you want to be famous? Can you become the next 'Lonely Girl' or Kelly Clarkson?
The funny thing is the methods for marketing a website, promoting a business or making a Youtube video popular are surprisingly the same.
Let's take Youtube for example.
You have a video that you have created and want to spread the word. There are a number of steps that 'professional' Youtube members take to ensure the best exposure for a video:
1. A cleverly placed thumbnail still. That's right, knowledgeable Youtube users know the position (time count of the video) that the still image is taken from. They then place an image that will prompt a viewer to click on their video (even if the picture has nothing to do with their video topic e.g. a girl in a bikini for a car tuning video).
2. Subscribers. Having a list of subscribers that get emailed every time you place a new video online is a huge advantage so many Youtube members actively solicit to increase their subscriber base.
3. Catchy title. Like the use of the thumbnail image, many users take a page out of the National Enquirer or TV news programs and drag people in with an interesting or engaging title.
Now we haven't even gotten to the subject or quality of the video yet. To become famous or an 'instant' celebrity takes a lot of effort behind the scenes.
Now if you have done website marketing or business promotion before, are these methods starting to sound a little familiar?
Creating a database, link exchanges, press releases with an engaging headline and a hook or tagline that snaps a prospect to attention!
Can you be famous by morning?
