These days it seems that everyone a their brother is looking to make money online. And they are doing it in numerous ways. It wasn't that long ago that get rich quick schemes were confined to a few magazines and books that you might find on your local library shelf. Books like The Lazy Man's Way to Riches were instant bestsellers in the mail-order arena. And for good reason - the title says it all!
The Problem
The first problem I see is that there are too many ways to make an online income. I say it's a problem because given too many choices people tend to procrastinate.
The second problem is lack of marketing knowledge. You could have the best product in the world and still not be able to make a dime online with it. With any product, good or bad, you still need to be able to market it. And most people just don't realize what a push it takes to get something noticed by enough people to make a difference.
The Answer
So how do we get around this problem? Well, here are a few ideas to help you.
- Realize that you're main purpose is to market. Sounds simple-stupid, I know, but the more ways you can come up with to market your product effectively the more likelihood there will be that you will make money with it
- Links are the key to your success. Links into your website can increase your page rank dramatically. Links from your articles will not only take readers to your web page and will act as a boost in organic rankings. Links from blogs accomplish the same two objectives. And links from social networking sites again help your rankings and bring people to your site. The combination of many of these different types of links will help you get people to your site. Getting people to your site should help you see profit - unless your site (or affiliate site) stinks. But that's for another article...
- Videos are your friend. Like many things online, you may have to learn a new skill set. One of these may be to upload video, probably to YouTube or another video social networking site. In addition you may have to learn how to upload videos to your web site. Whatever the case, believed me when I tell you that video can increase your page rankings dramatically, bringing a lot more business your way. Video is still pretty new news. However it will not stay that way forever, so if you don't already have one, buy yourself a clip-on camera and start videoing.
- In a similar vein to the above, you can shoot video from your screen. Camtasia has the best software on the market for doing this and have just released one of their older versions of their program for free download. Pick it up, learn it, and start making some tutorials regarding you all chosen topic. Use the keywords that describe your web page in the subject or description of everything you upload. This will increase your chance of higher rankings.
- If you haven't done so already, start a blog about your chosen topic. Link it to your web site, to videos, to the social networking links, etc. The more you do this the more traffic you will begin to see coming to your web site because of your higher rankings.
- Choose your keywords carefully. Simply put, find keywords that don't have a ton of competition but that are relatively popular. That is a whole subject in itself, but if you don't have a clue what I'm talking about - well, type "keyword research" into Google and start educating yourself on the subject.
The bottom line is do, do, do. There is no substitute for actually doing something. If you have to learn a new subject but get overwhelmed and are unable to continue, take a break and go on to something else. Don't just give up. It's situations like these that separate the winners from the losers. Giving up is what causes people to say Internet business is difficult. It isn't difficult, it's actually easy once you know how.
